Nepal is considered as one of the finest location for sightseeing in the world. Nepal’s geographic state offers an extremely varied landscape in a small area. An excellent way to experience the combination of both natural beauty and cultural heritage is sightseeing around Kathmandu valley as well as out of the valley. Visitors get opportunity to interact with the local people and get to know their culture and traditions and their way of life first hand. The most popular spots for sightseeing in Nepal are:

Kathmandu
The capital city of Nepal is Kathmandu, the biggest and the most sophisticated city of Nepal. It is known as the 'City of Temples’. These famous temples have great historic, architectural and religious importance. Kathmandu is the meeting point of various ethnic groups. It is a small city founded around AD 723 as Manju-Patan. Back in the days of the Malla Kingdom. King Prithvi Narayan Shah was the person who declared Kathmandu as the capital in the 18th century. On one hand it bears the burden being one of the poorest countries in the world, equally on the other hand it has also learnt to grow and accept the western civilization.
Kathmandu is a fascinating old city today where pagodas, narrow cobbled lanes, old carved windows, and stone shrines are backdrops to the drama of life that continues unhindered. Here the experiences are amazing, views fascinating, and the climate charming.
There are living Goddesses. There are reincarnate Lamas who foresee the future with a roll of dice and scriptural reference. There are walks that lead the adventurous to legendary places where ogres once lived.

Patan
The ancient city of Patan is situated on the South of Bagmati River and is about 5 kilometers southeast of Kathmandu. The city is full of Hindu temples and Buddhist monuments with bronze gateways, guardian deities and wonderful carvings.  Patan Durbar square, situated in the heart of the city, is the main tourist attraction. The square is full of ancient palaces, temples, and shrines noted for their exquisite carvings. The main attraction of Patan Durbar Square is the ancient Royal place itself. It consists of three main chowks, or courtyard, the central Mul Chowk, Sundari Chowk and the main Keshab Narayan Chowk. In the northeast corner of the courtyard is a triple-roofed octagonal tower, Taleju Bhawani Temple, built by King Shree Niwas Malla in 1667. Between the central Mul Chowk and Main Keshab Narayan Chowk there is the temple of Degu Taleju.

Bhaktapur
Bhaktapur is situated at an altitude of 1401 meters, is a home of medieval art and covers an area of 4 square miles. Bhaktapur means the city of devotees. The city lies about 14 kilometers east of Kathmandu and can be reached by public transportation. The prime attraction of Bhaktapur is Bhaktapur square, contains innumerable temples and other architectural showpieces like Lion Gate, a statue of King Bhupatindra Malla, a picture Gallery, the golden Gate, the Palace of 55 Windows, the Batsala Temple etc.The Lion Gate which was built during the reign of King Bhupatindra Malla is adorned with stone figures of Hanuman, Bhairav and Narasingh Narayan. The Picture Gallery contains ancient paintings belonging to Hindu and Buddhist schools of Tantrism of various periods and descriptions. The Golden Gate is the entrance to the main courtyard and the palace of 55 Windows. It was built by King Ranjit Malla and is one of the most beautiful and richly carved specimens.

The palace of 55 Windows was built in the seventeenth century by King Bhuptindra Malla. Among the brick walls, with their gracious setting and setting and sculptural design, is a balcony of 55 windows. This balcony is a masterpiece of wood carving. Other major spots are:

Nagarkot
Nagarkot is another popular tourist destination in Nepal. It is specially well known for panoramic Himalayan views as well as stunning sun rise & sun sets. It stands at a height of 2,099 meters above sea level & 30 k.m. north east from Kathmandu. On the way to Nagarkot, is the historic & cultural town at Sankhu, drive to Nala (30k.m.north-east) of Kathmandu. Along the way, we shall pass through pine forests, terraces & the typical Newari villages.
On a clear day Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Gauri Shankar, and Everest can be observed from here, similarly Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, sisa pangma, choya. In fact if the weather is clear, Annapurna range is also visible from Nagarkot.
Everest mountain flights that operate everyday from Kathmandu passes via the Nagarkot route. Nagarkot is the second highest point on the valley rim in Kathmandu. It is far from heat, dust, smoke and city's hustle-bustle environment with pleasure of fresh breeze and a touch of the rural countryside.
Many tourists visit to Nagarkot during the afternoon, stay at the resorts for early morning sunrise over the mountains. Once the sun begins to rise from the Himalayas, you can experience the most exciting sights as mountains begin to change their colors.

Pokhara
Pokhara is another most popular tourist destination in Nepal. It is the center of adventure and located 200km west from Kathmandu. The city of Pokhara is renowned for its setting rather than its historical or cultural endowments. Pokhara is the city where the Himalayan Peaks and the Annapurna Himalayan Range can be clearly observed. Some of the famous mountains visible from Pokhara are Mt. Machhapuchre, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Hinchuli etc.. There are more then 5 caves within this city. Some of the most popular caves are Mahindra cave, Bat cave, Kali Khola cave, Shiva cave etc.
Pokhara is the only city in Nepal that has several rivers flowing within itself.  This city must be God's idea of heaven, so rich in natural vegetation and excellent climatic conditions. The weather is also neither too hot nor too cold. It seems to be a paradise.

Lumbini
Lumbini the birth place of Lord Buddha situated in Kapilvastu district of Lumbini zone. It is located in south western Terai in Nepal and listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO; Lumbini is the birth place of Lord Buddha. It is not only well known an a historical city and religious devotion but for astonishing architectural beauty as well. There are many sightseeing locations in Lumbini. Among them, the Ashoka pillar is the most popular, discovered by the famous German archaeologist Dr. Fuhrer. The pillar is the epigraphic indication relating to the life history of Lord Buddha. It is also the most detectable signpost of the garden. The historic importance of the pillar is palpable by the inscription imprinted in the pillar. The pillar was constructed by Emperor Ashoka in 249 BC to commemorate his pilgrimage to the sacrosanct site.

Kakani
Kakani is the northwest of Kathmandu .It is only an hour's drive away from the capital, the hill top is suggested for its quiet surroundings .It has the skyline views of Gauri Shanker, Langtang, Choba Bhamare, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Himalchuli.
