Kathmandu has a good range of teaching hospitals, research centers, and private clinics with excellent facilities. They have 24 hour answer services and doctors on call.
The public hospitals are crowded during the daytime office hours. The services offered by some public sector hospitals are of international standard. The Ganga Lal Heart Foundation at Basbari come into such category where people from abroad receive a high standard heart care and surgeries in relatively much lower prices. There are also high class dental service centers in Kathmandu.
Some expert also point out at the possibility of making Nepal another Asian destination for health tourism.
The most accessible hospital for the commoners in Kathmandu is the Bir Hospital near the Nepal Airlines building at New Road.
B.P. Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital at Chitwan is one of the very few specialized hospitals outside Kathmandu valley in Nepal. This hospital is the national cancer center in Nepal with very good physical infrastructure and modern equipment and specialized manpower for diagnosis, treatment, prevention and research in cancer in Nepal under one roof.

Some of the private clinics offer the finest services and often have western doctors, though the clinics can be expensive, a consultation can cost up to US$50.
