Famous Musician

It wasn't untill early 90's when Crossroad made their debut with Naya Mode, the second generation of Pop music amazingly rose to its pinnacle. With Maya Meri Maya, Sanjay Shrestha and his band brought new wave in the music industry. Following the bagdwon were Sanjeep Pradhan, Bhim Tuladhar, Babin Pradhan, Nepathya, Deepak Bajracharya and many more.

Popular groups included Wrathchild, Crisscross, Chimpanzees, the Elegance, Prism (which originated in Darjeeling), and Next. The concert scene included not only auditoriums in schools but also large public spaces, such as Kathmandu Durbar Square, in a party to celebrate the Nepal Sambat, or New Year’s eve on the Newar calendar. Cover bands also began playing at restaurants, like Graffiti and Doublee Restaurant and Bar, encroaching on a market previously cornered by ghazal singers.

Classical and Contemporary Musicians:

Shiva Shankar Manandhar is highly reputed singer, music composer of Nepali songs (Nepalese songs) and the first ever "hero" of the Nepalese movie, Aama.

Amber Gurung: AMBER GURUNG (Born Feb. 26, 1938) was a Composer/Singer/Lyricist. He was born in Darjeeling, India Amber Gurung is also the music composer of the new national anthem of Nepal adopted in 2008.

Gopal Yonjon: Yonjan, music pundits say, is one of the music maestros who virtually shaped the broad contours of mainstream ‘Modern Nepali Music.’ In the Golden Era of Nepali music from the 1960s to the mid-1970s, Natikazi and Shiva Shanker—the natives of Kathmandu— had emerged as the key trend-setting composers in the Nepali soil, whereas Ambar Gurung, Gopal Yonjan and Sharan Pradhan did it from Darjeeling, India.

Nati Kaji: Singers came and went, trends were set and replaced, but Nati Kaji prevailed over all. He has given music to maestros like Narayan Gopal, Bacchu Kailash, Yogesh Baidya, Prem Dhoj Pradhan, Phatte Man and Tara Devi. At the same time, he has lent his talent to newer artists like Anjan Shakya, Bigyan Shrestha, Rajesh Payal Rai, Yam Baral, Lochan Bhattarai, Ram Krishna Dhakal and Sunil Bardewa.
