Bardia National Park

It is the largest protected area in the Terai region of Nepal located in the far western district of Bardiya, bordered by River Karnali in the west, the Churia range in the north, while the river Babai flows right through the park. Bardia National Park is the home to the endangered Royal Bengal tiger and Nepal’s famous one-horned rhinoceros.

The park hosts 30 different mammals, more than 250 species of birds, and several varieties of reptiles and water animals. Some of the other animals found here are elephant, swamp deer, blackbuck, gharial crocodile and marsh mugger crocodile. The exotic Gangetic Dolphin is also sometimes seen in the River Karnali. Birds found here include the endangered varieties of Bengal florican, lesser florican, silver-eared mesia and sarus crane.

You will enjoy fishing at River Karnali and River Babai. The exotic wildlife but with the special hospitality of a Nepali camp would certainly make your visit to the camp an outstanding one. The best time to visit Royal Bardia National Park is from October through June.

There is a daily flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, which is the nearest airport from the Bardia National Park. You can reserve a private transport to reach the hotel or alternatively take overnight or day buses plying on the Dhangadi, Mahendranagar or Karnali routes. Drop at Ambassa (the gate way of Bardia National Park), which takes 16 hrs. from Kathmandu, 12hrs. from Pokhara and 9 hrs from Chitwan.
